Algarve wildlife conservation & birdwatching: The Black Stork

Every year, “birds of the year” are elected by several organizations around the world in a way to call for attention to real facts for wildlife conservation and their habitats.
The Black Stork was elected by SPEA (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds) as the bird of 2010, the year that the world pays attention for the biodiversity loss.
According to the SPEA website, birdwatchers in the Algarve will be able to admire the Black Stork near Sagres during the winter migrations, from the end of February to September.
The Algarve is a region with exceptional natural conditions and many parts of the countryside, namely nature reserves and protected landscape areas, have exactly the sort of characteristics that are sought for bird watching.
