The 8th annual Hoscar (Hostelworld Customer Annual Ratings) took place in Dublin last month. Here, the best hotels in the world are recognized and voted by 1 million Hostelworld.com customers in 2009.
Lisbon proved again to be the jewel in the crown for budget conscious travelers across the world by claiming five of the top ten spots, namely the first three places.
For the second year running Lisbon’s Travellers House Hostel received the top honor when it was announced as the best hostel in the world.
The top ten worldwide hostels were as follows: Travellers House, Lisbon, Portugal; Rossio Hostel, Lisbon, Portugal; Living Lounge Hostel, Lisbon, Portugal; Academy Hostel, Florence, Italy; Carpe Noctem, Budapest, Hungary; The Riverhouse Backpackers, Cardiff, Wales; Lisbon Lounge Hostel, Lisbon, Portugal; Greg & Tom Hostel, Krakow, Poland; The Naughty Squirrel Backpackers Hostel, Riga, Latvia and Lisboa Central Hostel, Lisbon, Portugal.
The title of the most secure hostel in the world went also to Travellers House in Lisbon, while the one with the best character was the Living Lounge Hostel in Lisbon.
